shokugeki no soma Characters, this time we want to pay a small tribute to a series that has shown us that the culinary world is not something to be taken as a joke, and less if we talk about anime. Giving thanks to Shokugeki no Soma for being one of those pleasant surprises that we have been able to observe in recent times, in a genre as competitive as Shounen.
And it is that although like most of these it bases its plot around epic battles, seasoned protagonists who never say no to a challenge, and a number of rivals who all they do is fan more and more the flame of victory in the protagonist. Food Wars! , has its particular way of interpreting all these events, managing to balance almost perfectly the emotion, tenacity, and atmosphere of the battles, with the enormous amount of dialogue that the series has when explaining each procedure, ingredients, and preparation of the endless recipes that we see.
For all this and more, here we bring you our selection of the 10 best Chefs of Shokugeki no Soma, we hope you enjoy it!
10. Megumi Tadokoro
- Culinary style: Home cooking.
- Strengths: Vegetables and seafood.
Megumi was a student without any outstanding attributes and with a mediocre cooking style, until Souma’s arrival at the Totsuki academy. From this point on and thanks to Souma’s support, he was able to awaken his true potential by reaching a position among the top 8 of the fall selection. And although their meeting ended in a loss to Ryou Kurokiba, he showed his talent in preparing delicious dishes but with that unique touch of mommy love. We can describe his cuisine as “friendly” since whenever someone tries his dishes, the result with a feeling of calm or relaxation.
9. Takumi Aldini
- Culinary style: Italian food.
- Strengths: Use of mezzaluna.
Takumi Aldini is a young Italian twin brother of Isami Aldini and Souma’s self-proclaimed eternal rival . Supported by their relatives, the two brothers were encouraged to explore and hone their culinary skills at the Totsuki Academy; But during the opening ceremony and after Souma’s challenging words, he decides that he must prove his place to the newcomer, creating a relationship of rivalry and friendship in the style of Goku / Vegeta.
Despite his undeniable passion, Takumi was defeated by Subaru Mimasaka during the quarter-finals of the fall selection and later avenged by Souma in the semi-final. His culinary skills, like Isami, are based on Italian cuisine currently influenced by Japanese food, managing to create new dishes without losing the essence of each culture.
8. Souma Yukihira
- Culinary style: Yukihira Restaurant.
- Strengths: Creativity.
If you are wondering what is the style of the Yukihira restaurant? The truth is quite simple, SoumaHe learned the cooking style from his father, whose strengths are to be more cunning and creative than others when it comes to cooking, an additional for being the protagonist of the series. But in reality what the series wants to show us is that both Souma and his father Jouichirou are chefs who are based on the different explosions of creativity that they can have, mixing different styles, recipes, ingredients, and flavors, which most of the time they finish in exquisite dishes. Although we all know the disasters that both create from time to time, this is why he was second in the fall selection and eighth place on this list. Now the question is, what is the style that Souma will try to perfect? No manga spoilers, please!
7. Ryou Kurokiba
- Culinary style: Sea Food.
- Strengths: Seafood.
At first, Ryou seemed like another assistant, accompanying a “celebrity” like Alice Nakiri, but what a surprise we got when this Sea Wolf showed his true fangs, and in what way or not? Positioning himself almost immediately as one of the favorites and the “92nd generation prodigies”. And if we know, he tied for second alongside Souma, but as the judges said, the difference was minimal between the three competitors. Currently, Kurokiba is considered a monster among first-year students, standing out in foods with sea ingredients and flavors that leave everyone who tries them in a forceful KO.
6. Akira Hayama
- Culinary style: Spicy food.
- Strengths: Curry and spices.
For the moment and Erina aside, Hayama is considered the best chef of the 92nd generation and being a generation with so many outstanding students, that is saying a lot. Being rescued at an early age by Jun Shiomi, Hayama decides that in gratitude he will dedicate all of himself to accompany her and demonstrate that together with her in theory, they can form an unstoppable team.
And as we said, so far he has only rectified his words, finishing first in group A for the fall selection, defeating Erina’s assistant Hisako Arato in the quarterfinals, tying in the semifinal against Ryou, and finally, defeating both Souma and Ryou in the final. Taking its aromatic food to new levels and achieving its unique stamp in each dish, obtaining the so famous award “The Chef’s Specialty”.
5. Satoshi Isshiki
- Culinary style: Japanese food.
- Strengths: Vegetables.
Other than his fanaticism for scantily-clad clothes, we actually know little about Isshiki-sempai. If we take Shun Ibuzaki’s words, we can conclude that Isshiki is quite clever since he classifies him as an old fox, we also know that he stood out during his first year as explained by Doujima-sensei himself, all this added to the fact that he occupies the seventh seat Out of the 10 Elite Councilors of Totsuki, there is no denying what talent he has.
But the real reason for occupying our fifth place is due to the only time he showed part of his kitchen, it is in the unofficial duel with Souma, and although on that occasion they tied, at the end of the duel Shun mentions that he did not know it. he took seriously, being affirmed by Isshiki himself, that it was a dish that did not highlight his skill. Pretty badass if you ask us.
4. Erina Nakiri
- Culinary style: Food for royalty.
- Strengths: All.
We got to the good guys and ladies. There is little to note about the genius, prodigy, almost demigod Erina Nakiri that the series has not done before. And it was pretty obvious that this lady would fight for the top spots. Erina specializes in high-end dishes known as Royalty, using not only the finest ingredients but also indisputable creativity, accompanied by an unrivaled palate, which allowed her to obtain the 10th seat on the council, even in her first year.
Unfortunately despite all her strengths, according to the series, Erina’s kitchen has not shown any weak points so far. This Ojou did not rise to a higher position on our list simply because the top three spots are filled by two former top Elites Council seats and the chef she considers inspirational herself.
3. Kojirou Shinomiya
- Culinary style: French food.
- Strengths: Vegetables.
Kojirou Shinomiya is a former student of Totsuki and the first seat of the Council of 10 Elites of the 79th generation. As a person, Kojirou can be quite unsympathetic, but despite his severe nature, he always has the people he appreciates in mind, showing great concern (in his own way) for them. If we talk about his food, his achievements speak for themselves, reaching the Pluspol award in French cuisine, and although he showed a moment of stagnation, he had no difficulty defeating Megumi and Souma in their duel.
Positioning himself in our third place, not only for his outstanding qualities but for taking a teacher role towards Souma, prompting him to challenge his limits and go without qualms for the seat that once belonged to him on the council.
2. Jouichirou Yukihira
- Culinary Style: Yukihira Restaurant
- Strengths: All.
490 victories in favor against his own son, make it clear that the gap that still exists between Souma and his father is more than overwhelming. It could be said that the qualities that we see reflected in both Erina and Souma are thanks to Jouichirou, imparting tenacity, effusiveness, and creativity to her son, and the technique of mastering all culinary styles to Erina. That said, so far only one person has been seen beating Jouichirou, and it is Gin Doujima, and although we do not know if these two culinary monsters ever faced each other, we will leave Jouichirou in second place for the aberrations of dishes that to times believe.
1. Gin Doujima
- Culinary style: Unknown
- Strengths: Unknown
Ironically, the character who occupies our first position is the character we know the least about. So let’s go over why a bit? Gin Doujima deserves to be considered the best chef in Shokugeki no Soma. First of all, he took the first seat of the 69th generation, an achievement with too much merit knowing that Jouichirou was second. Second, he is the head chef of the Totsuki Resort, and being the best culinary academy in the world, the head chef of his name must be an unimaginable person. Finally, it should be noted that despite how superb Shinomiya can be, he respects him, we can even say that he fears him, and that is not something easy to do.
For these reasons, and despite not having shown his skills, Gin Doujima is a character who inspires respect and fear at the same time, demonstrating what a true teacher is, by pushing students with a firm hand, but always for the sake of improvement. . Proving that Gin is indisputably the best chef in Food Wars at the moment!
Well, before the claims start we want to make a little clarification as to why some other chefs in the series ended up out there that definitely deserve a mention.
First, it should be clarified that those selected are only characters that have appeared in the anime, therefore, chefs such as Eishi Tsukasa who currently occupies the first seat of the Council of 10 Elites had no place at the top, for only having a presence in the manga. Second, everyone had to have shown a dish in the series, a fact that only Doujima does not fulfill, and we already explained our reasons. However, it is the reason why none of the other graduates are part of the list, because their appearances have never involved their participation in battles. Finally, positions 9 and 10 could perfectly be occupied by Arato Hisako, Nakiri Alice, or Mimasaka Subaru, which also managed to belong to the 8 finalists of the autumn selection, but due to the great effort and passion that Megumi and Takumi showed throughout the series, they took over the positions.
We hope you really liked this top and do not forget to share, like it, and leave your opinions in the comments.
Until next time! bye bee.
